Acholi Lessons from God

I know, I know... 2 posts in one day is simply unheard of... but this is so amazing I have to spend the time to share!

The two ladies that work here, Santa and Katherine, have been working with me to learn the Acholi language. The people here all know english, some more than others. But Acholi is the local language. Abigail is picking it up quicker than I am. And OH! how they laugh at me! Anyway, the other day I kept saying over and over to myself "Tchwing Malay." I have no idea how to spell it. I was wondering what this meant, and how ANY Acholi finally sunk into my brain. I asked Tyler what it meant and he said it means "Holy Spirit"!!!

I told Santa this today and she got very serious and said in her broken english, "This will be your testimony. God will teach you. Your first Acholi word is 'His Spirit.' You will be okay." Yes. Because it's not by my might nor by my power, but by His Spirit.

Lubanga Ber. I have learned that one too - God is good.

  1. Well that was awesome. Merry Christmas to all of you. Went to Christmas Eve service. First time ever because we always have our family Christmas on Eve. This year decided to make new tradition. Did it on Christmas Eve Eve. That way we could go and fellowship at church. It was awesome. Cried and had great communion.
