Rotten Day

I wrote most of this a few days ago.  I was fuming.  I didn't dare post it because I didn't want to whine to the world. Now that I'm over it, and no longer whining, I thought it would be okay.  Maybe it's okay that you see what a horrible terrible no good very bad day looks like in the life of Momma Gooden...

Updating for my own sanity's sake at this point, since my day is going a bit INSANE.

Last night, around 9:00, the kids were all tucked in. I was getting ready for bed, and Tyler was on the computer. It was a really calm night, but really hot. I went outside to see what the temperature was because usually it cools right off at night. It was 86. Our windows stay closed throughout the day in order to keep it cool, so I went around outside opening them to cool off. As I made my way to the front of the house, I noticed a frog on the ground in front of the window. I tried to avoid him since I was barefoot, when I noticed his stalker... a 4 foot long green mamba snake. I calmly said "Uh, Ty... there's a snake out here..." He casually walked outside, and then we realized it was pretty serious. Tyler called over the night guard, (who basically walks around with a flashlight and a bow and arrow for a while, and then falls asleep for the night) and he whacked that thing to death with the end of his bow!  All the kids got out of bed, checked out the dead nasty poisonous thing, and went back to bed.

An hour later, we were all settled and ready for bed when I walked into the bathroom to find a mouse. Here we go again... We got all of the children out of their half of the hut: put 2 kids in our bed, 2 on the opposite ends of the "couch", and dragged Elisabeth in the crib into our room. Tyler got the kitten that lives here on the property, and put him in the half of the hut with the mouse. Mind you, we would only allow a cat in our house under these extreme circumstances. We shut the door, and snuggled up all on top of each other. (Remember it's 86 degrees out?)

I woke up this morning to cat pee all over Abigail's bed, cat poop on Lilah's... and no dead mouse. So, as I was carefully stripping the beds, Lilah wandered out of the hut with one of my shoes. It's gone. You know those people who can walk on hot coals? I was that girl all day today.

Needless to say, I was not ready to go cook breakfast and do this hut living this morning. I wanted to throw the kids in the car, get some Egg McMuffins via drive-thru, and stay in jammies all day in a "normal" house with no mambas and no mice and no burning ground to walk on. It took me a few hours, but I'm back. I haven't had a day quite like this one... ever.

I know no matter what God's plan is for the day, His grace will be sufficient enough for me, and anyone else who trusts Him, to get through it. We're still all here. The snake is dead. The beds are clean. The cat is with its rightful cat-loving-owner. I got new shoes, and found the missing one... and God never left His throne. The test is always how we'll react in the heat of the moment. This life I'm living is not for me and for my comfort. It's for a greater eternal purpose that may not include a bit of comfort... but it sure includes joy in serving the King of the Universe Who is ever-present. He is my sufficiency, my comfort, and my Eternal Great Reward.
